GNC rolls the dice on relocation near casino in Columbus

April 2012
General Nutrition Corporation (GNC) will be repositioning their store in the West Broad Street retail market near Westland Mall this summer.  Following many successful years inside Westland Mall, GNC is adapting to the changing retail environment along West Broad Street.  While the new Hollywood Casino is bringing plenty of excitement and new activity to West Broad Street for its grand opening this Fall, it hasn’t yet been the boon needed to reinvigorate Westland Mall.  GNC, wanting to retain its loyal customers in the area, sought a new location to better serve its customers and relied on Andrew Feinblatt of Cincinnati-based OnSiteRetail Group to identify and secure the new location.  The chain’s new 1,500 square foot store will be located in West Highland Plaza, where GNC will join Radio Shack and GameStop.  GNC is anticipating an August 2012 opening.

GNC Holdings, Inc., headquartered in Pittsburgh, Pa., is a leading global specialty retailer of health and wellness products, including vitamins, minerals, and herbal supplement products, sports nutrition products and diet products, and trades on the New York Stock Exchange under the symbol "GNC."  As of December 31, 2011, GNC has more than 7,600 locations, of which more than 5,900 retail locations are in the United States and franchise operations in 53 countries.

OnSite Retail Group completes four transactions for GameStop in first quarter

March 2012

Lately it’s been “game-on” for OnSite Retail Group and video game retailer, GameStop.  Andrew Feinblatt of Cincinnati-based OnSite Retail Group represented GameStop in the completion of four recent leases.  Three of the new stores resulting from the leases will be in the Dayton, Ohio area, where GameStop already operates over a dozen stores.

GameStop signed a leased for 1,463 square feet in Xenia.  The new store, which is currently under construction, should open in late April in a two-tenant building located between Walmart Supercenter and Lowe’s at 110 Unit B Hospitality Drive.  The second new Dayton-area store will open in the former CATO space on the east side of Springfield at Eastside Square, adjacent to Walmart Supercenter.  The new store at 150 South Tuttle Road will mark GameStop’s third in the Springfield market.  The third lease was completed on the south side of Beavercreek at The Greene Town Center, at Indian Ripple Road and I-675.  And while there have been opportunities in the past at The Greene for GameStop, they have been patient, waiting for just the right space to come available.  And last, but not least, Feinblatt’s fourth new GameStop deal of the quarter was completed on the north side of Cincinnati in Fairfield.  That new store will open in the fourth quarter of this year within the roadside phase II development at the Jungle Jim’s International Market complex.  The new Fairfield store will join AT&T, Jimmy John’s and Menchie’s frozen yogurt.

According to Feinblatt who is approaching the ten-year mark in his representation of GameStop, the retailer continues to expand at select locations in the Greater Cincinnati, Dayton & Columbus markets as well as in smaller markets in Ohio and Northern Kentucky.  Ranked 262 on the Fortune 500, GameStop is the world's largest multichannel video game retailer. GameStop's retail network and family of brands include 6,627 company-operated stores in 17 countries worldwide and online at www.GameStop.com.

Several new retail outlets — including a Watson’s superstore, Morris Home Furnishings and a relocated Verizon Wireless — are planned for Florence in the coming months.

Construction crews work on the facade of the Morris Home Furnishing store, set to open later this year. The store will be located in the old Kmart building. (The Community Recorder)
Justin B. Duke of the Community Recorder reports:

This year Florence will see the opening of a Watson’s superstore, Morris Home Furnishings, a new Verizon Wireless store and others.
“These are all excellent redevelopment projects,” said Josh Wice, Florence’s business/community development director.

The Watson’s will be on Houston Road in the former Ethan Allen furniture store. Watson’s currently has an accessory outlet on Mall Road, but the new store will offer much more, Wice said. Watson’s sells pools, pool supplies and equipment along with indoor entertainment.
“They will have the space to offer a full-service store with everything Watson’s offers,” he said.

The Verizon Wireless store is being built in the old Lone Star steakhouse lot on Mall Road. The new store will replace its current store across the street, and that building will be open for lease.
Morris Furniture is currently renovating the old Kmart building on Burlington Pike.

Having a company that’s new to the area invest a significant amount of money in an existing building is an encouraging sign for Florence’s retail development, Wice said.
“It will be very complementary to the surrounding business community,” he said.
With a wealth of new retail stores opening this year, it reinforces Florence as Northern Kentucky’s retail hub, which means shoppers can look to Florence to find what they need, Wice said.
“The entire business community of Florence benefits,” he said.
The upcoming list of opening stores is something to be proud of, but that doesn’t mean Florence is done finding new retailers, Wice said.
“We’re always looking for new opportunities for Florence,” he said.
