In the cover story of the January 2016 edition of Shopping
Centers Today, Steve McLinden highlights his top six retailers who have
mastered international expansion and show no signs of slowing down. As
written by McLinden, there are some retailers, including Aldi, “that have
consistently conquered foreign markets over the years, usually on the strength
of clear brand identification, strong local partnerships, good old-fashioned
homework and, sometimes, counterintuitive thinking.” The grocery chain
based in Germany has 1,400 stores in the U.S. and could add an additional 600
to that count by 2018.
